Building in the open

We publish what we change, in plain language, because transparency is a founding value. Here is what has actually improved recently — and what we are working on next.

August 2026

The life under the symptom

In calmer moments, InnerLight now looks gently upstream with you: at connection (loneliness is a vital sign — the research puts it in the mortality league of smoking), at home, work, and money — because the crisis often sits on one of those stones, and each one has a real door here. And once you’ve been truly heard, it may invite you to write one line of your own prescription — the change your body is asking for — and help you take one real step toward it.

Honest calm, backed by placebo science

New research shows that rituals and positive expectation measurably lower distress even when you know exactly how they work — no deception needed, and none used. InnerLight now speaks true efficacy evidence with every tool, frames your wait as the settling already beginning, audits its own language against negative-expectation phrasing, and offers The Calm Ritual: a small deliberate practice whose honest rationale is printed right on the card.

Zenisys awakened: the sound now listens to your words

The Zenisys Sound System’s full design is now active: every message you write steers the music — no camera needed — meeting your state and gently carrying it toward calm (the Iso principle, with the strongest effects around 24 minutes in controlled trials). Tracks play in a no-repeat shuffle so nothing loops, the generative Creator composes a soft under-bed matched to your state, and after deep-calm or lifting music the sound eases back toward calm on the researched schedule — unless you touch the music yourself, which always wins.

Eleven languages, with a guard that keeps them equal

Swahili, Amharic, and Hausa joined Punjabi, Bengali, Tagalog, Tongan, Hindi, Chinese, Spanish, and English. Every crisis surface, the launch page, the feeling prompts, and the Focus anchor speak all eleven, and every info page translates itself on first visit. A build check now fails any release where a single language falls behind — and you can switch languages mid-conversation from a globe that shows every language in its own name.

The wait does not end at the handoff

A provider whose next opening is weeks away has not resolved anything. Providers now declare an honest access tier (within 24 hours, 72 hours, a week, or longer), the fastest real door is shown first, 72 hours is the standard we hold the network to, and if your next human appointment is further away than that, InnerLight remains your companion until the human is in the room.

Nearby help you can actually act on

Every nearby facility is now tappable: call in one touch, open the facility’s own website, get directions from its exact location, and see what it offers — including whether it accepts Medicaid or a sliding scale, which languages it serves, and whether it has emergency mental-health services. Listings come from the federal FindTreatment.gov directory. Providers who see themselves listed can reach us to add hours and details.

No dead doors, no required apps

Every critical handoff now has a chain of ways in, checked live before you are sent so a website outage routes you to the next verified door automatically. 211 opens as a website (no app chooser can appear), and 988 can be reached by chat as well as by phone. Nothing here will ever require you to install an app.

Warmer, truer, more honest

The companion now knows the real date and time, speaks plainly instead of clinically, recognizes when the hardship belongs to someone you love, and holds a rights card back for a turn when grief is acute. Backgrounds are now your founder’s own garden and sky photographs shown whole, without blur or crop. New calming activities were chosen from published research and matched to the state you are in — body-first tools for panic, mind-first tools for a looping thought. The Terms of Service and a full FAQ are public, including an honest answer about legal limits.

Readiness, built dormant

Two engines now exist in the codebase but are switched off: an emergency-dispatch readiness engine (three tiers, consent-anchored, activated only when law or a crisis-system contract requires it and a real provider is connected) and the funding engine described in our principles. Neither can touch what a person in crisis experiences; that isolation is enforced by automated tests.

July 2026

Three languages, spoken and written

The whole visitor experience — the pages, the conversation, and the spoken voice — now works in English, Spanish, and Chinese, with a language switcher and English as the always-safe fallback.

A companion that never labels your feelings

We rebuilt the way InnerLight reads how a person is doing. It responds to your state without ever announcing it — no “you seem anxious,” no scores, no clinical words. It also no longer treats a fast heartbeat as distress, because beats-per-minute is too ambiguous a signal to judge anyone by.

The arrival now matches the hour

Arriving at InnerLight is now a slow, cinematic opening — and the scene knows what time it is where you are, so a 2 a.m. visit opens into night, not noon.

A law against scripted lines

The founder made it a standing rule: no standardized, pre-written lines in any user conversation, ever. Every response is composed for the person in front of it, because canned comfort is not comfort.

Never more than you can bear

We adopted a new founding principle — Principle 14 — and then went through the product removing every ask we could: fewer taps, fewer questions, fewer decisions. The program carries the burden; the person is carried.

No more camera instructions

InnerLight no longer tells anyone to lean in, find better light, or adjust themselves for a sensor. If the camera cannot work with you exactly as you are, the technology adapts or quietly steps aside. You are never corrected to make our reading easier.

Music that recovers itself

The calming sound now arrives slow and gentle every time, varies between visits instead of repeating the same song, and picks itself back up if the connection stumbles — without you touching anything.

Backgrounds grown from the founder’s own photographs

The scenes behind a session are generated from photographs the founder took himself — real places, real light — so the ground under a hard night is something true.

The Watch

A private founder’s room that shows, in anonymous counts only — sessions held, music shifts, bridges to a human — that the program is doing its work. Never words, never identities, and it never scores anyone’s distress. It only keeps company.

What we are working on next

A note on honesty: these are improvements to how InnerLight works, not claims that it works. InnerLight is built on established principles and is itself untested; independent evaluation is what we are seeking, and we will publish the results either way.
